We are ASSOC, the Actuarial Students’ Society at Macquarie University.
Over the years, ASSOC has been highly successful in evolving with our Members. We are delighted on the fact that ASSOC is understood to be one of the most successful and recognised Commerce student bodies at Macquarie University. We have been known as the innovative Actuarial Society. With enormous support from our Members and friends, the Department of Actuarial Studies and our sponsors; we are glad to see that many of our events are of mutual benefit to all parties involved.
ASSOC has 3 core values through which all our activities are conducted.
University is an important time for most people. You have freedom and control over what you want and don’t want to do. At ASSOC, we believe that besides completing your degree, you need to equip yourself with other skills in order to secure better jobs in a highly competitive sector. As such we regularly conduct activities that improve your professionalism, career skills, integrity, social engagement, academic skills and sporting ability. With weekly activities and events, ASSOC is possibly the most active society at Macquarie and there is guaranteed to be something for everyone!
Committed to the Community
ASSOC strives to act with compassion, honesty and openness in order to provide a welcoming atmosphere for every Macquarie student. This is primarily accomplished through engaging international students with our SOT events we aim to create interconnected culture throughout ASSOC and the Actuarial Studies course. Moreover, our commitment to the community is demonstrated through our ongoing support to charities such as the Leukaemia Foundation and the Cancer Council both worthy causes.
Above all else, Actuarial Students love to have fun. In addition to the countless career workshops and networking evenings that ASSOC run, we also conduct numerous social events including trivia nights, our annual camp, games nights and JASS Ball with our UNSW counterparts. The bonds you create during these social events are usually carried over into the academic role as group work and peer to peer mentoring is a must to succeed in Actuarial Studies. Ultimately, it is our belief that through socialising and getting to know more people that we improve ourselves in the process.
